Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)

Position Overview
The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for ensuring that all safety protocols are followed on construction sites, promoting a safe work environment, and complying with EM 385-1-1 regulations. The SSHO will develop and implement safety plans, conduct safety inspections, and provide training to personnel to minimize risks and enhance safety culture. Projects will be at all 5 military bases on the island, and some projects will require the ability to obtain a clearance. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with EM 385-1-1 standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on construction sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Provide training and support to construction personnel on safety practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, preparing reports and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaborate with project management to promote a culture of safety and integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and inspections.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant construction experience (5+ years of safety management)
  • In-depth knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety regulations and standards (40 hour cert required).
  • Certification in safety management or related field (e.g., CHST, CSP is a plus).
  • Proven experience as a Safety Manager on multiple DOD projects exceeding $10M
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to effectively promote safety awareness among team members.
  • Ability to assess risks and implement effective safety measures.
  • Willingness to travel to job site locations at all 5 bases on the island.
