POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional marine and fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Fisheries Biologist to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.
The Fisheries Biologist supports the assessment of protected species and fisheries interactions using data from surveys, telemetry, acoustic sensors, and electronic monitoring. This role focuses on population ecology, bycatch estimation, spatial modeling, and evaluating human impacts on marine fauna.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Estimate abundance and trends in protected species populations using survey and telemetry data.
- Evaluate fishery bycatch through statistical and machine learning tools.
- Develop and validate ecological models for species distribution and behavior.
- Analyze data from shipboard, aerial, and alternative platform surveys.
- Participate in fieldwork for data collection, tagging, and sampling
- Support scientific publications, presentations, and permit documentation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in fisheries science, ecology, or marine biology.
- Experience with statistical modeling (R, Python, C++) and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of line transect methods, AI/ML tools, and bycatch estimation techniques.
- Familiarity with survey platforms and remote sensing data.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and part of a team.
