As the Metal Lead, you will work on the design, fabrication and installation of custom railing, architectural elements and partition walls. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with expertise in MIG, TIG and stick welding, with the ability to produce high-quality finished products. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in layout, fitting and welding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead the fabrication and installation of custom metal projects including handrail, metal doors and windows, range hoods, fireplace cladding, shelving units, partition walls, and architectural features.
· Accurately read, interpret, and execute fabrication and installation work based on shop drawings, blueprints, + project specifications.
· Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and bronze.
· Layout, fit, fabricate, and assemble metal components based on shop drawings and project specifications.
· Apply finishes, patinas, and protective coatings according to project requirements.
· Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and aesthetic standards.
· Lead by example in craftsmanship, efficiency, and job site professionalism.
· Coordinate with Design, Engineering, Project Management, and Installation teams to meet schedules and expectations.
· Troubleshoot fabrication, fitment, and installation challenges and provide solutions.
· Maintain tools, equipment, and shop organization.
· Follow all safety procedures and ensure a safe working environment in the shop and field.
REQUIREMENTS
· 5+ years of experience in metal fabrication and welding, including layout, fitting, and installation.
· Proficient in MIG and TIG welding.
· Experience working with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and bronze.
· Proficient or willing to learn a variety of patina and specialty finishes.
· Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
· Comfortable installing and fitting work in the field.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
· Ability to work independently and lead projects through completion.
· Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
· Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Knowledge of workplace safety practices + procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS + ATTITUDES
- Technical skills: The Metal Fabrication Shop Lead must have advanced knowledge of metal fabrication, welding techniques, and finishing processes. This role requires precision in layout, fitting, welding, and installation to ensure high-quality results.
- Communication skills: Communication skills are fundamental for this role to effectively collaborate with other departments. They must have strong written and verbal communication skills providing updates on the progress of projects and ensuring that tasks are completed according to design specifications and deadlines.
- Attention to detail: Attention to detail is essential for ensuring that all fabricated and welded components meet exact tolerances and design standards. The Metal Lead must be meticulous in cutting, grinding and assembling materials, as well as conducting quality checks to produce high-quality finished products.
- Problem-solving skills: Problem-solving skills are crucial for diagnosing and resolving unforeseen design or material issues and ensure smooth workflow and project completion. They must be innovative in identifying and proactively troubleshooting to resolve fabrication or welding challenges during production.
- Mechanical aptitude: Mechanical aptitude is necessary to operate and maintain a variety of welding and metalworking equipment. The Metal Lead must have a solid understanding of the mechanical functions of these tools and the ability to perform minor repairs, as well as a general knowledge of construction practices related to metalwork installation.
