Spark the Journey is a nonprofit organization that provides mentorship and a community of support for young adults to chart their own paths to achieving college and career success. Spark the Journey is continuing Capital Partners for Educations legacy and is growing into a national community. Today, Spark the Journey supports more than 500 mentees as they enter young adulthood. Spark the Journeys unique mentorship approach fosters long lasting relationships between mentors and mentees as young adults choose and pursue the education, career path, or personal goals they want to achieve with a community of support behind them.

About the Role

The Curriculum and Training Coordinator revises, expands, and adapts engaging curricular content for internal and external stakeholders. This role requires someone who can get up to speed quickly, work independently, research solutions proactively, and communicate clearly about project status and deliverables. The Curriculum and Training Coordinator reports to the Curriculum and Training Manager.

Location: Remote work from anywhere

Schedule: Part-time, 20-34 hours per week

Start Date: Early December (flexible for the right candidate)

Future Growth: This position has the possibility of becoming full-time contingent on funding and organizational needs.

Responsibilities

Curriculum Support

  • Partner with the Curriculum and Training Manager to review, revise, and expand existing program content delivered and utilized by staff, mentors, and students
  • Design and update curriculum resources such as mentor conversation guides, group session activities, and handouts aligned with program learning objectives
  • Develop and adapt e-learning modules in the organizations learning portal using Articulate Rise360
  • Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to create interactive, accessible, and inclusive digital and print learning experiences
  • Create assessments, knowledge checks, and reflection tools to evaluate understanding and program impact
  • Research and incorporate evidence-based practices in youth development, mentoring, and college and career readiness into curriculum development
  • Ensure all materials reflect culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered approaches aligned with Sparks mission.

Training Support

  • Assist in the development of online self-paced training courses for volunteer mentors
  • Maintain and improve the online Mentor Onboarding experience
  • Produce facilitator guides, slide decks, and supplemental resources to equip staff in delivering consistent, high quality coaching sessions
  • Gather and analyze feedback from mentors, staff, and students to inform iterative improvements to curriculum and training offerings

Project Management

  • Manage assigned curriculum and training projects from concept to completion, meeting all deadlines
  • Proactively communicate project status, deliverables, and any obstacles to the Curriculum & Training Manager
  • Maintain organized systems for storing and retrieving curriculum documents
  • Track project progress using shared tools and provide regular updates

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience with e-learning content creation and authoring tools (Articulate Rise, Storyline, or similar)
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and learner engagement strategies
  • Exceptional writing and research skills
  • Ability to transform complex concepts into learner-friendly content
  • Strong ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and subject matter
  • Passion for serving Sparks target population
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively find solutions
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to clearly convey project status and deliverables
  • Demonstrates responsible research practices including proper citation of sources and ethical, transparent use of AI tools to support curriculum development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred

  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Subject matter expertise in curriculum or training development for youth, mentors or educators in one of the following areas strongly preferred:
    • college and career readiness
    • workforce development
    • youth development and culturally responsive teaching
  • Experience with multimedia content creation (video, audio, graphics) for e-learning preferred

How You Will Be Compensated

Hourly rate of $30-$32 based on experience, working within the part-time range of 20-34 hours per week. This is currently a 7-month position (December 2024 - June 2025) with the possibility of extension or conversion to full-time based on funding and organizational needs.

Part-time employees are eligible for some of the benefits offered by Spark and are subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations of each benefits program. Benefits may include paid time off, professional development funds, and other perks pro-rated for part-time schedules.
