The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA is looking for a Chief of Staff to join our Denver/hybrid team.
The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a critical partner to the Chief Executive Officer, serving as the CEO’s primary administrative support and trusted advisor on administrative initiatives. . This role provides leverage to the CEO by ensuring preparation, execution, and focus on top priorities; coordinating strategic initiatives, and managing executive office operations. This position plays a key role in advancing the CEO’s vision by supporting initiatives and ensuring alignment across the senior leadership team. The CoS also supports the governance functions of the Strategic Advisory and Governance Board, ensuring strong communication, effective board engagement, and seamless execution of governance processes. While not a decision-making role, the CoS amplifies the CEO’s impact through strong coordination, communication, and consistent delivery.
Requirements:
Essential Functions
Executive Support and Strategic Partnership
- Serve as the CEO’s right hand, ensuring preparation, follow-up, and focus on top priorities.
Provide requested research, analysis, and material to inform the CEO’s decision-making. - Will also act as the administrative liaison between the CEO and other external stakeholders
Draft communications, talking points, presentations, and briefings for the CEO.
Represent the CEO in select meetings and internal initiatives. - Lead executive office operations, including board relations and ensuring operational effectiveness with a high level of support to the executive team.
Governance and Board Support
- Partner with the CEO, Executive Committee, and Committee Leadership to plan and execute board and committee meetings, including follow-ups and coordination of leadership responsibilities.
- Lead the development, coordination, and timely delivery of board materials.
- Ensure governance best practices, board onboarding, and evaluation processes are supported.
- Act as a key point of contact between staff leadership and the board.
Strategic Alignment and Organizational Execution
- Advance execution of strategic initiatives and monitor cross-functional accountability.
- Manage follow-up on CEO and board directives, ensuring progress and outcomes are tracked.
- Facilitate alignment of leadership team activities with organizational strategy.
- Lead or support high-visibility special projects at the request of the CEO.
Leadership and Culture
- Strengthen internal communications by cascading CEO priorities and organizational updates.
- Model collaborative, mission-driven leadership consistent with the association’s values.
- Build trusted relationships across staff, board, members, and external stakeholders.
Supervisory duties
Direct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; coaching, mentoring, and providing guidance; planning, assigning, and directing work; setting goals, appraising performance, and recognizing achievements; addressing performance or behavioral issues; and resolving employee concerns.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- High emotional intelligence, discretion, and executive presence.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in executive messaging, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement with experience preparing executive-level material.
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
- Familiarity with corporate strategy, goal-setting strategy, and performance metrics.
- Knowledge of board structure, bylaws, meeting protocols, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to anticipate challenges, analyze data, and propose solutions.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with execution and operational detail.
- Deep understanding of healthcare industry issues, policy, and business of medical practice strongly preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or related field.
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH, or related field) strongly preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in roles that directly support senior executives, including prior experience working directly with CEOs and the board of directors in complex organizations
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, project execution, and cross-functional leadership.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.

This is a largely sedentary role, so employee must be able to remain in a sedentary position while focusing for extended periods of time throughout the workday. Position also requires occasional movement inside the office to access file cabinets, printers, etc. While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to successfully navigate scenarios requiring the following operational abilities:
- Ability to operate PC/keyboard and other office productivity equipment
- Ability to position self to traverse/navigate around typical office setting
- Ability pull/push, lift, open/close, grasp/manipulate, transport up to 10 lbs.

The approximate salary range for this position is $113,000- $145,000, depending on the skills, education, and experience of the candidate.
