Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Concrete Finisher to join one of our concrete teams. This role requires expertise in concrete techniques, the ability to work efficiently under time constraints, and a strong commitment to quality and safety. The ideal candidate will collaborate with apprentices and foreman to ensure concrete work meets project specifications and enhances durability and appearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Concrete Finishing: Smooth and finish freshly poured concrete using hand tools (trowels, floats, edgers) and power tools (e.g., power trowels) to achieve a polished, even surface.
- Surface Preparation: Level and spread concrete prior to finishing, ensuring proper alignment with forms and grades.
- Specialized Finishes: Apply decorative or functional finishes, such as stamped patterns, exposed aggregate, or broom finishes, as specified by project plans.
- Curing and Sealing: Apply curing compounds, sealants, or protective coatings to enhance concrete durability and weather resistance.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished surfaces for imperfections, making repairs or adjustments to cracks, bubbles, or uneven areas as needed.
- Formwork Assistance: Assist in setting up, aligning, and removing forms to ensure accurate concrete placement and edge finishing.
- Tool Maintenance: Clean and maintain finishing tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.
Requirements
- Experience: At least 1–3 years of experience as a concrete finisher or in a related construction role; demonstrated ability to produce high-quality finishes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, bend, and stand for long periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Proficiency with concrete finishing tools and techniques; ability to read blueprints or project plans is a plus. Strong attention to detail and teamwork skills required.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational training in concrete or masonry is an advantage.
- Certifications: OSHA-10 certification preferred but not required; ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification or similar is a bonus.
- Driver’s License: Valid Ohio driver’s license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to tow trailers or transport equipment is a plus.
- Additional Requirements: Ability to pass a drug test and background check as part of a drug-free workplace policy.
- Phone: Must have cell phone to clock in and out daily, log jobs, and follow other company communications.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at residential, commercial, or municipal properties, depending on the project.
- Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, heavy materials, and seasonal weather is common; some tasks may involve heights or confined spaces.
- Schedule is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work during peak construction or landscaping seasons (spring through fall).
- Rare but possible multi-day, out-of-town trips, including long-distance travel, and overnight stays.
Salary and Benefits
- Pay Range: Starting wage aligns with local non-union standards (apart from prevailing wage jobs) and is commensurate with experience, versatility, and additional skills like lawncare/chemical application.
- Benefits:
- Medical-partial percentage paid by the company after 60 days
- Dental and vision after 60 days, additionally other ancillary benefits
- 401K with a company match after 6 months of employment
- Vesting PTO immediately, with the ability to use after 90 days
- 90-day probation period
