We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fabric Cutter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, and preparing a variety of textiles for our customers and in-store projects, while ensuring minimal waste and maintaining high quality standards. A strong knowledge of different fabric types and a passion for sewing/crafting are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately measure and cut fabric to specified lengths for customer orders, using manual tools (shears, rotary cutters) or potentially automated cutting machines.
- Inspect fabrics for defects, inconsistencies, or dye lot variations before cutting and report any quality issues.
- Assist sales associates' efficiency by providing quick preparation of fabric cuts, measurements, and project requirements for customers.
- Plan cuts strategically to maximize material utilization and minimize waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety protocols.
- Record operational or production data, such as yardages used, for inventory control.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and high-quality results.
- Physically handle and move fabric bolts and rolls, which may involve frequent lifting and standing for extended periods.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience in fabric cutting or a similar role in a retail or manufacturing environment is required.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools (tape measures, rulers) and various cutting equipment.
- Strong mathematical skills for measuring, calculations, and ensuring accuracy in all cuts.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in all tasks.
- Knowledge of various fabric types (e.g., cotton, wool, denim, silk, upholstery materials) and their specific handling requirements.
- Good manual dexterity and physical stamina to perform job duties effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with both customers and team members.
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and inventory management systems.
- A passion for sewing, quilting, or general crafting is a plus.
