A strong knowledge of different fabric types and a passion for sewing/crafting are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately measure and cut fabric to specified lengths for customer orders, using manual tools (shears, rotary cutters) or potentially automated cutting machines.
  • Inspect fabrics for defects, inconsistencies, or dye lot variations before cutting and report any quality issues.
  • Assist sales associates' efficiency by providing quick preparation of fabric cuts, measurements, and project requirements for customers.
  • Plan cuts strategically to maximize material utilization and minimize waste.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety protocols.
  • Record operational or production data, such as yardages used, for inventory control.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and high-quality results.
  • Physically handle and move fabric bolts and rolls, which may involve frequent lifting and standing for extended periods.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Prior experience in fabric cutting or a similar role in a retail or manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proficiency in using measuring tools (tape measures, rulers) and various cutting equipment.
  • Strong mathematical skills for measuring, calculations, and ensuring accuracy in all cuts.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in all tasks.
  • Knowledge of various fabric types (e.g., cotton, wool, denim, silk, upholstery materials) and their specific handling requirements.
  • Good manual dexterity and physical stamina to perform job duties effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with both customers and team members.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and inventory management systems.
  • A passion for sewing, quilting, or general crafting is a plus.
