Job Title: Senior Human Resources Manager
Reports to: Vice President of Human Resources
Job Summary:
The Senior Human Resources Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for the full spectrum of human resources functions, including employee relations, talent management, training and development, benefits administration, labor relations, and HR compliance. This role plays a pivotal role in driving HR initiatives that support the organization’s mission, values, and strategic objectives. The Senior HR Manager acts as a trusted advisor to leadership and a resource to employees, promoting a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership
- Partner with the VP of Human Resources to develop and implement HR strategies and programs that align with organizational goals and enhance workforce engagement, effectiveness, and retention.
- Serve as a key advisor on organizational design, change management, and talent planning.
Employee Relations & Labor Management
- Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, investigations, grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans.
- Provide guidance and training to managers and supervisors on best practices, contract interpretation, and labor law compliance.
- Support collective bargaining negotiations and maintain positive labor union relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor and employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, NLRA, EEO).
Talent Management & Development
- Oversee the performance management process, including annual reviews, goal setting, and feedback tools.
- Design and implement learning and development programs to support career growth and succession planning.
- Manage leadership development initiatives and employee training through platforms such as Relias.
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop and enhance onboarding and orientation programs.
Benefits & Compensation Administration
- Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and tuition reimbursement.
- Manage open enrollment, benefits education sessions, and support employees with benefits inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, and related reporting (e.g., 5500 filings, nondiscrimination testing).
- Oversee monthly benefits invoice reconciliation and payment processes.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee records and ensure HRIS (e.g., ADP) is updated and fully utilized.
- Develop and update HR policies, the employee handbook, and procedures in compliance with applicable laws.
- Support internal and external audits, grant-related HR requirements, and Joint Commission HR standards.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on HR metrics including turnover, training completion, and engagement surveys.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise HR team members and ad hoc project teams, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
- Promote a service-oriented HR department culture that is responsive, transparent, and aligned with organizational values.
- Conduct internal HR satisfaction surveys and recommend continuous improvements to HR service delivery.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop and manage departmental budgets in coordination with the CFO.
- Participate in cross-functional committees and represent HR in collaborative partnerships.
- Support initiatives related to DEI, wellness, employee recognition, and workplace safety.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a management or strategic role.
- In-depth knowledge of employment laws, labor relations, benefits compliance, and HR best practices.
- Excellent communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/LMS systems (e.g., ADP, Relias).
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience in a unionized and/or healthcare setting.
