FLSA STATUS:

Full-time/Non-exempt/32 hours per week/M-Th 7:30am - 4:30 pm

SALARY:

$53 - $56 per hour

Dental Hygienist Certification/Radiology Certified

Health Center Manager

WORK EXPERIENCE:

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DESCRIPTION:

Required to be physically onsite to maintain critical operations. Must make every effort to report onsite during closures or delays unless released by leadership. May be required to work modified or extended shifts.



JOB SUMMARY:

A Dental Hygienist is the first point of contact when patients visit a dental clinic. Their duties include screening patients, educating them about their diet and how it impacts their oral health and counselling them during and after treatment. Dental Hygienists can also perform dental procedures such as cleaning the teeth and gums, removing plaque and scaling and root planning.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Radiographic studies, charting conditions of decay and disease, and performing procedures in compliance with the Dental Practice Act.
  • Prepare treatment room for patients by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Prepare patients for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating, and draping patients.
  • Provide information to patients and employees by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintain instrumentation for dental hygiene treatment by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting instruments.
  • Select materials and equipment for dental hygiene visit by evaluating patient’s oral health.
  • Complete dental hygiene procedures such as prophylaxis, gross debridement, scaling and root planing by removing calculus, plaque, and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins.
  • Detect disease by completing oral cancer screening, feeling and visually examining gums, using probes to locate periodontal disease and assessing levels of recession and radiographic studies.
  • Arrest dental decay by applying fluorides, placing sealants and other cavity- preventing agents.
  • Maintain patients’ appearance and ability to masticate by cleaning, and polishing removable appliances.
  • Help dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drugs and oxygen supply, and directory of emergency numbers.
  • Educate patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions and providing reminders of time and scheduling of next dental visits.
  • Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories and charting in patient records.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience as Dental Hygienist or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA).
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • A patient and friendly personality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Stamina to meet the physical demands of the job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Dental Hygiene.
  • Valid Dental Hygienist Licensure.
  • Certified in Radiology required.
  • Experience working in a Dental environment (required)
  • Community health experience (preferred).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants will be required to authorize a background check and submit to drug testing. Failure to do so will disqualify applicants for consideration for the position.
  • Documentation of vaccinations and/or titers for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and MMR.
  • Documentation of Tuberculosis testing and/or screening.
