Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will support the finance department by managing day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on manufacturing-related costs.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Financial management and reporting
- Month- and year-end close: Assist with and perform various tasks related to the monthly and yearly closing processes.
- General ledger maintenance: Prepare and post accurate journal entries and reconcile balance sheets and other general ledger accounts.
- Financial statements: Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Account reconciliation: Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
Manufacturing and cost accounting
- Cost analysis: Analyze production costs, report on standard versus actual cost variances, and identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Calculate the true cost of goods sold to provide management with accurate financial insights.
- Inventory valuation: Assist with the valuation and reconciliation of inventory, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.
- Fixed assets: Maintain fixed asset records, including entries, reconciliation, and reporting for all manufacturing equipment and tooling.
Compliance and auditing
- Audit support: Assist with both internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation as requested.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant federal and state regulations, especially those affecting the manufacturing sector.
Operations and process improvement
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with production, procurement, and other departments to ensure accurate cost tracking and financial reporting.
- System utilization: Maintain and ensure the integrity of financial data within the company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or other accounting software.
Salary

Qualifications and requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Experience: 1–5 years of accounting experience, with experience in the manufacturing industry being a significant plus.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially advanced Excel) and experience with ERP systems (Odyssey, QuickBooks, etc.).
- Soft skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
