PETROL, a leading full-service advertising agency specializing in progressive marketing for some of the biggest brands in tech, sports, and video gaming—among many more—is seeking a full-time Media Planner. With dedicated departments for print services, motion graphics, AV, social media, interactive/digital, as well as media planning & buying, we regularly develop fully integrated global marketing campaigns for some major brands across genres.

We are looking for a new member of our in-house media team. In this position, you would be responsible for the development and implementation for both national and local media campaigns.

This is a fast-paced, collaborative environment and one that requires attention to detail, good communications skills and ability to be a team player. Candidates should also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Media Planning (approximately 50% of duties)

  • Work closely with media team members (Directors, Supervisor, Sr. Planners, Analyst).
  • Touch on all aspects of digital and traditional media campaigns from setup to execution to post-campaign analysis.
  • Assist in comprehensive media strategy development to meet clients’ marketing objectives.
  • Assemble media consideration sets and make recommendations on how to best allocate agency advertising budgets, utilizing media research tools, internal resources, and industry/market knowledge.
  • Manage and monitor media budgets, ensuring planned allocations are adhered to throughout campaign execution and making adjustments as necessary to optimize performance and client ROI.
  • Develop RFPs for media publishers; gather and analyze proposals to determine media selections, and negotiate rates and positioning as required.
  • Develop final media plan recommendations and assist the Account team in presenting these recommendations to clients.
  • Provide supporting research for recommended media strategies and plans.
  • Oversee and monitor ongoing campaign performance, ensuring campaigns are executed properly, on budget, and according to client expectations.
  • Assist with account reconciliation, including resolving billing discrepancies and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Responsible for accurately entering and updating assigned projects in company technology systems, including contract terms, budget details, project scopes, and client information.

Data Reporting (approximately 50% of duties)

  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) across digital media campaigns, including display, video, social, and programmatic
  • Prepare and deliver recurring campaign performance reports using data visualization tools such as Datorama, Google Data Studio, and Excel
  • Present campaign insights to clients and internal stakeholders through written summaries, dashboards, and client-ready presentations
  • Support campaign optimization by identifying performance trends and providing actionable recommendations to media planners and buyers
  • Collaborate with clients, account teams, and analytics leads to define success metrics and ensure measurement strategies align with business goals
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of large datasets to identify opportunities for campaign improvement and cross-channel optimization
  • Apply statistical analysis and modeling tools to uncover deeper insights and support forecasting and budget allocation decisions
  • Manage data extraction and integration across multiple platforms, including ad servers, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and proprietary databases
  • Automate reporting workflows using API integrations and custom queries to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Understand and assist with tracking setup, including pixel/tag implementation and attribution modeling across platforms such as Google Marketing Platform
  • Evaluate media performance holistically, connecting digital metrics (CTR, CPC, CPM, conversion rate, bounce rate, etc.) to client objectives and ROI

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2–4 years of media planning and buying experience at an advertising or media agency
  • Experience in both traditional and digital media planning
  • Proficient in third-party ad platforms and analytics tools, including Google Campaign Manager (GCM) and Google Analytics
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with media planning and budgeting tools is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced coursework or certifications in marketing, communications, or media preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Confident presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate media plans, strategies, and performance insights to clients and internal teams
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to developing creative, data-informed solutions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and handling shifting priorities and ad hoc requests
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability
  • Interest in digital media trends and a desire to grow skills in data analysis and emerging platforms
  • Familiarity with the video game industry and its marketing landscape is a plus
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus
