Job Title: Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist

Location: Grand Forks, ND

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary: Rural Psychiatry Associates is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist to support the accuracy, integrity, and security of patient health records. This role is responsible for managing clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations, processing records requests, and supporting the daily operations of our HIM department. The HIM Specialist will work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure health information is maintained in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Maintain and monitor the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of patient medical records

• Process requests for release of information (ROI) in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies

• Assist with chart audits and quality control reviews to support documentation compliance

• Ensure accurate scanning, indexing, and filing of electronic health records

• Respond to internal and external requests for documentation in a timely and professional manner

• Support clinicians and staff with access to and navigation of health records as needed

• Collaborate with IT, compliance, and clinical teams to ensure health data integrity and security

• Maintain confidentiality and protect patient privacy at all times

• Stay current with HIM best practices and regulatory changes

Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred

• RHIT or other HIM-related certification preferred

• Prior experience working in a healthcare HIM or medical records department

• Strong understanding of HIPAA, ROI processes, and medical record documentation standards

• Experience with EHR systems

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

• Strong communication and customer service skills
