POSITION SUMMARY:
The Asphalt Mill Operator is a key role within our paving and milling operations. This position is responsible for operating asphalt milling equipment to remove pavement to specified depths and grades in preparation for resurfacing, repairs, and reconstruction. The Mill Operator works closely with the Crew Foreman coordinating with truck drivers, ground crews, and paving teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role requires precision, awareness of grade and transitions, and the ability to maintain consistent milling operations in varying job site conditions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Operate asphalt milling machine to remove pavement to required depth, width, and grade
Maintain consistent milling depth and smooth surface transitions for paving operations
Perform clean tie-ins at joints, edges, curbs, and structures
Coordinate with haul truck drivers to ensure efficient material removal and continuous operation
Work closely with ground crews and broom operators to maintain site cleanliness and workflow
Monitor milling conditions and adjust machine settings for grade, slope, and surface accuracy
Identify and communicate job site issues such as utilities, obstacles, or surface inconsistencies
Ensure milled surfaces meet tolerances required for asphalt paving
Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
Lead by example with regard to safety, professionalism, and teamwork
Follow all company safety policies and job site procedures
Qualifications:
Prior experience operating asphalt milling equipment required
Strong understanding of milling depth, grade control, and paving preparation
Ability to match joints and maintain clean edges and transitions
Experience working in roadway, parking lot, or commercial paving environments preferred
Ability to work safely around traffic, structures, and active job sites
Strong communication skills and ability to work well with crews and drivers
Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with company drug and alcohol testing policies.
