Role Overview:
The Receiving Manager is responsible for managing the receiving department to ensure the incoming shipments are handled efficiently are undamaged. Duties may vary to include some or all of the following job responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Monitors and oversees incoming shipping activities to ensure product is in perfect condition.
- Reads receiving notices, orders, and other documents so as to determine priorities and methods that are needed to meet schedules.
- Communicates continuously with all individuals in the department to monitor shipment status, and ensure priorities are known and carried out to satisfy Customer demands.
- Manages, monitors, consolidates and retrieves storage to allow maximum utilization of space.
- Reviews receiving processes and make changes to promote efficiency.
- Operates a forklift to move and unload shipments as needed.
- Engages with vendors and drivers with a positive attitude and exceptional customer service.
- Plays a mediator’s role between shipping units and vendors in the case of discrepancies in shipments and reconcile with the appropriate person.
- Identifies opportunities for enhancement and suggests ways of improvement to top management of the organization.
- Supervises, evaluates, trains, and provides performance feedback to receiving employees to ensure all company standards are met.
- Performs related administrative tasks.
- Assists in special and scheduled physical inventories.
- Promotes self-improvement in assigned tasks and always maintains a clean and safe work environment by sweeping, cleaning, and removing trash.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Requirements:
Required Education/Experience and Skills:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Forklift experience required.
- 4-5 years experience in a warehouse shipping or receiving environment.
- Prior supervisor experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Software (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe.
- Knowledge working with Syspro or similar ERP software strongly preferred.
- Ability to lead a team and communicate effectively.
- Understand the daily work schedule and delivery requirements and perform work to achieve on time/accurate delivery.
- Well organized, with the ability to track multiple activities involving numerous details.
- Ability to work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
- Excellent customer service and time management skills.
- Willingness to be part of a team.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of oversight.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds at times.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, bending, twisting, and stooping.
- Regularly exposed to fumes, allergens, or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
- May occasionally be exposed to mild chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to electric powered equipment, conveyor belt and compressed air.
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
