Job Overview
The Academic Radiation Physicist plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality care through the use of radiation sources and imaging technology. This position also involves supporting clinical research initiatives and participating in educational activities. The responsibilities of the Radiation Physicist will be guided by the Division Chief and local hospital management.
QualificationsRequired
- A Ph.D. or M.S. in medical physics, physics, or a related discipline is essential.
- The ideal candidate must be board certified or eligible, with proven clinical experience in an academic medical environment.
- Board-eligible candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a medical physics residency program.
- Experience ranging from 0 to 10 years post-residency in conventional radiotherapy, 3-D and IMRT treatment planning, high and low dose rate brachytherapy, along with knowledge of Linac operations and various specialized procedures (both external beam and brachytherapy) is required. A strong commitment to patient care, education, and clinical research is also necessary.
Preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience who have completed a CAMPEP-accredited residency program.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are highly desirable.
Schedule Requirements
- The primary work location will be RWJ Hamilton in Hamilton, NJ, with support required at other RWJ facilities such as NBI, CMMC, JCMC, HAM, and SOM as necessary.
Essential Functions
- Oversee all aspects of radiation oncology physics responsibilities, including equipment calibration, clinical support, quality assurance for equipment and treatment delivery, compliance with radiation safety regulations, treatment planning, dosimetry planning, and quality assurance.
- Deliver radiation services with the utmost professionalism, adhering to established quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
- Provide radiation services at various locations, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospitals in New Brunswick, Hamilton, and Somerset, as well as RWJBH Medical Centers in Jersey City and Clara Maass, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (primary) and University Hospital in Newark.
- Maintain productivity by actively participating in the Division's clinical workload, in line with productivity benchmarks set by leadership.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and assist in enrolling patients in clinical trials.
- Engage in teaching activities for medical and physics residents, dosimetry and therapy students, and provide specialized lectures to attending physicians, supporting the educational mission of the organization’s cancer institute and residency programs.
- Assist in the recruitment of faculty, fellows, and staff.
- Attend mandatory meetings as required by the organization, hospital, and regulatory bodies.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
