We are currently seeking a full-time customer service representative/in-house proofreader to join our team. You will work 4 days a week on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 7:55 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CT.
ProofreadingPal offers a relaxed office atmosphere with a small group of coworkers who enjoy working together to put forth the best service for our clients. This position requires that you work with our team from our office in downtown Iowa City. This role is for an ambitious individual with both strong customer service skills and excellent writing skills. We are an ideal fit for those looking to break into the proofreading and editing industry!
In addition to providing high-quality proofreading and editing services, our in-house representatives work with customers using email-based communication as well as live chat and phone interactions. You will become a customer service hero and learn some of the best customer service practices and procedures! ProofreadingPal prides itself on delivering above and beyond customer service and cares about its customers and employees.
Ideally, you have the following:
- Previous customer service experience
- Working knowledge of various programs and document types (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe PDF, etc.)
- Excellent reading, writing, and communication skills
- Strong multitasking skills
- Confidence to work independently with minimal supervision following training
- Desire and willingness to expand your skills/responsibilities in order to grow with the company
- Ability to think outside the box and think on your feet in high-pressure situations
- Initiative to make suggestions to improve processes and ensure an excellent client experience
- Some college/university or related experience in proofreading and/or writing
As our in-house editor/proofreader, you will:
- Proofread and edit various documents available to you on our job board
- Follow the guidelines of various academic writing styles, including Chicago, APA, MLA, and AP
- Help with proofreading and editing rush documents in need of immediate attention
- Focus on improving your skills as a proofreader and editor
As our customer service representative, you will:
- Efficiently and accurately monitor email-based communication with clients and staff
- Monitor the proofreading job board to ensure our team of 50+ remote contract proofreaders pick up time-sensitive projects in a timely manner
- Respond to client queries via live chats (~3 to 5 chats per day, typically lasting 5 to 10 minutes per chat)
- Respond to client queries via phone (~3 to 5 phone calls per day, typically lasting 10 to 15 minutes per call)
- Balance various client and staff questions and issues and handle them according to company guidelines
- Complete a daily task list while balancing assigned office duties
- Follow a manual to provide an exceptional customer service experience for clients and staff
- Work with our remote afternoon/evening customer service representative, who comes online at 4:30 p.m. CT Sunday through Thursday, to monitor the translation job board for TranslationPal, our sister company
- Guide new applicants for contract proofreading positions through the hiring process, including email communication and grading applicants' short tests (~10 to 15 graded tests per month)
- Create and schedule social media posts via Hootsuite (this typically takes ~3 to 4 hours per month)
Compensation:
The base hourly pay for this potion is $12.50, and you will have ample opportunities to earn additional income. You will be paid for each proofreading and editing project you complete and each applicant test you grade. You will also earn a 5% commission for all large project sales on which you were the customer service representative who gave the initial quote. With additional income, you will likely earn the equivalent of $14 per hour or higher on average.
