Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community Liaison supports the successful execution of the East Palo Alto Clubhouse's recruitment and retention efforts to ensure we are retaining our middle school members in our high school programming once they transition, and that we retain high school members engaging with us throughout the year.
This position requires a detailed and dynamic leader who can support the East Palo Alto Clubhouse team navigate the complexities that come with school partnerships, family engagement, and general event planning while ensuring that equal efforts are put into recruiting and retaining student engagement all year. The role is critical to ensuring the East Palo Alto Clubhouse supports members graduating high school with an informed plan.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruitment (8th Grade & High School)
- Design and execute the Rising 9th grade program (R9) in collaboration with BGCP middle school sites in East Palo Alto to build a pipeline of 8th grade students and families that will enroll in East Palo Alto Clubhouse programming upon 8th grade graduation
- Collaborate with the East Palo Alto Clubhouse team to carry out ongoing recruitment efforts pertaining to high school members attending our partner high school sites in East Palo Alto
- Retention
- Collaborate with the East Palo Alto Clubhouse team to carry out ongoing retention efforts pertaining to high school members attending our partner high school sites in East Palo Alto
- Family Engagement
- Design and execute 8th grade to high school transitionary workshops for 8th grade families that support them in helping their students transition successfully to high school
- Collaborate with the East Palo Alto Clubhouse team to carry out ongoing family engagement opportunities throughout the school year
- Event Management
- Lead the planning of recruitment and retention events like: 8th Grade Graduation, Thanksgiving Dinner, Breakfast with Santa, Quarterly Showcases, Teenchella, Fall Kick-off, Summer Kick-off
- Collaboration and Partnership Building:
- Collaborate with East Palo Alto's charter high schools to host programming that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members
- Collaborate with BGCP K-8th teams to successfully execute an R9 program and support overall recruitment efforts at the East Palo Alto Clubhouse
- Collaborate with community partners (i.e. SETI Institute, Stanford, EPA Archive, Lockheed Martin Lab, EPACENTER, Youth Community Service) to support youth-development programming
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- An established record of effective team collaboration
- In-depth knowledge of middle school to high school transition
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive grant proposals and reports
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with school partners
- Commitment to the organization's mission and values
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; and some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling. The role also requires significant fine finger dexterity and near vision acuity. The position may occasionally involve lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Generally, the job requires approximately 80% sitting and 20% walking or standing. The work environment noise level is typically moderate but may occasionally be louder. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Monday - Friday 10:00am - 7:00pm
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Employment Status: Full-Time Hourly
- Pay Range: $30.00 to 33.00 (per hour), depending on experience (DOE)

As part of the hiring process, BGCP requires candidates to complete a LiveScan fingerprinting, background check, tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
