POSITION SUMMARY
Join a growing team of consulting engineers and project managers specializing in design, drilling, and maintenance of subsurface salt caverns and injection wells. Duties include field engineering, engineering design and modeling, and project management for Strata’s midstream oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial clients. Participate in energy storage, waste disposal, and energy transition projects, including natural gas and hydrogen storage, and carbon sequestration, from early feasibility design, permitting, detailed design, and construction.
This full-time position will work with clients on a daily basis, represent Strata in professional organizations, perform business development related activities and interact with other Strata professionals. The Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support and leadership for projects.
Applicants must be able to work within a team environment and individually and uphold professional ethics. Regular travel and working at a client location will be required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Engineering
- Well testing & Mechanical Integrity Testing for salt caverns and injection wells. Design and plan the test, coordinate services, and oversee the test at the well site. Prepare analysis and report following test completion. Prepare and maintain test equipment.
- Supervise cased-hole well logging, site surveying, and other well-site activities.
Salt Cavern and Wellbore Design
- Complete solution-mining modeling, thermodynamic modeling, wellbore hydraulic analysis, and pressure fall-off analysis.
- Support cavern design using industry practices and standards (e.g., API RP 1115)
- Support drilling and completion design and engineering analysis.
- Create and update CAD drawings.
Project Management / Controls
- Lead and coordinate small-scale projects under direction of Sr. Project Managers.
- Support project controls on medium and large projects, including schedule management, cost tracking and control, subcontractor procurement, and contracting.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- 0 to 2 years of experience in oil and gas exploration, midstream oil and gas, or mining industries.
- Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or commitment to obtain within 1 year of start date. Willingness to follow through with Professional Engineer registration once qualifications are met.
- Interest in engineering analysis, engineering design, project management, and project controls (schedule and cost management).
- Experience with workovers, drilling, well testing, and related relevant duties. (preferred)
- Experience with salt caverns, waste and brine disposal wells, and carbon sequestration wells. (preferred)
- Internship or work experience in engineering consulting or oil and gas services. (preferred)
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum, Mining, Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree from ABET accredited university.
- Master’s degree in Petroleum, Mining, Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree from ABET accredited university. (preferred)
Computer Skills
- A high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, is a must.
- AutoCAD, Python, Microsoft Excel w/ VBA. (preferred)

- Must be able to effectively communicate complex engineering and science concepts to clients, co-workers, and regulators in a manner that can be understood by all.
Client Risk Profile
- Able to understand the risk profile of each client and communicate potential risks to a client in a manner that is both informative and suggests paths for resolution.
- Must be able to work under attorney/client privilege and respect and uphold client confidentiality.
Written Communication
- Effective technical writer for the preparation of reports, plans, memos, letters, etc.

- Able to prioritize and successfully accomplish multiple tasks at once.

Physical Activity

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Transportation
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Travel
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 60% of the time with overnight stays for wellsite field assignments.
Authorization to Work
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
Screenings
- This position requires initial and ongoing background checks and drug and alcohol screenings.
