Position Summary/Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Memory Care Center Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) is to maintain quality resident care in accordance with the Communities Policy and Procedure and federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines while maintaining the resident’s highest quality of life. This is to be done under the direct supervision of the charge nurse.
Essential Functions:
Department Specific:
- Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promote resident rights, dignity, individuality and freedom of choice.
- Answer resident’s pull cords promptly and courteously.
- Assist with all ADL’s (grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, transferring, etc.) per ISP and/or as needed.
- Ensure resident concerns and/or grievances are reported immediately to the charge nurse.
- Assist residents to activities and social programs and engage as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident information.
- Be able to recognize a change in condition and promptly report condition to the charge nurse.
- Obtain vital signs and weights as ordered/ assigned.
- Report all accidents/incidents promptly and complete required paperwork.
- Ensure that safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times.
- Perform any task as delegated within their scope of practice.
- Maintains a professional image at all times.
- Utilizes problem solving skills to obtain appropriate resolutions.
- Develops and maintains open/trusting professional relationship with others.
- Through appropriate communication shows support for other team members and facility.
In-Service / Continuing Education:
- Attends required continuing education as designated by licensure.
Personnel Management:
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel as well as with other departments within the facility to meet the needs of the Residents.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
- Assist new employees.
- Open to new ideas and changes in the department and/or facility.
Other:
- Conforms to expected ethical and legal standards including matters related to Resident abuse and neglect, by personally complying with laws, regulations and facility’s policies and procedures.
- All other duties assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain Confidentiality of all Residents information and promote Resident’s right to choose.
- Must carry a active C.N.A. License in the state of Missouri
- Must be registered on Family Care Registry.
- Maintain appropriate appearance and personal hygiene.
- No inclusion on Employee Disqualification List.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Be Courteous, considerate and cooperative in dealing with all community personnel.
- Appropriate results on Drug Screen Urinalysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively & respectfully with staff, residents and visitors.
- Maintain a CPR license.
- Be able to provide care and maintain residents dignity, privacy and quality of life in all job functions.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:
- High School diploma or Equivalent
- Certified Nursing Assistant License
Physical Demands
Physical:
- Lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must have the physical capabilities to stand, sit and walk for extended lengths of time.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with Residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility.
Manual Dexterity:
- Is medium related to computer use, completion of reports and use of adding machine.
Vision:
- Must possess the sense of sight or use prosthetics that will enable this sense to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Oral Communication:
- Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as customer service, answering overhead pages and answering telephone.
Hearing:
- Must possess the sense of hearing or use prosthetics that will enable this sense to function adequately to perform the essential functions of the position such as communication with Residents and their family members, answering overhead pages and answering the telephone.
Environmental Requirements:
- This worker is exposed to adverse environmental factors including exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB and the AIDS and HEP B viruses.
Hazardous Requirements:
- Tasks involve moderate to high risk of exposure to blood, tissue or bodily fluids including exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB and the AIDS and HEP B viruses.
Mental:
Adequate to perform the essential functions of the Nursing Department
Equipment Used:
Gate Belts, Wheelchairs, Dynamaps, Computer and other medical equipment necessary to perform duties.
