Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Counselor to join our team in a Male Level III Group Home during the second shift (2pm–10pm). This vital role involves providing high-quality care and support to residents ensuring their safety, well-being, and independence. This role is critical in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and structured environment for youth with behavioral and emotional needs.

The ideal candidate must be dependable, emotionally mature, able to maintain firm boundaries, and comfortable working in a high-structure setting. As a Residential Counselor, you will create a positive, nurturing environment where residents can thrive, develop life skills, and enjoy meaningful daily experiences. Your energy and commitment will help foster a respectful community that promotes dignity and respect for every individual.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supervision & Safety

  • Provide continuous supervision of residents during assigned shift
  • Ensure compliance with Level III service standards and agency policies
  • Monitor behavior and intervene appropriately during escalated situations
  • Conduct room checks and routine safety checks
  • Ensure a safe and secure living environment at all times

Behavioral & Therapeutic Support

  • Implement individualized service plans and behavioral interventions
  • Reinforce positive behaviors using approved behavior management techniques
  • De-escalate conflicts using therapeutic crisis intervention strategies
  • Support residents in developing coping skills and problem-solving skills
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times

Daily Living & Structure

  • Assist residents with daily routines (hygiene, chores, meals, homework time)
  • Facilitate structured recreational and life-skills activities
  • Ensure residents follow daily schedules and house expectations
  • Promote accountability and responsibility within the home

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete shift notes, progress notes, and incident reports accurately and on time
  • Document behavioral incidents, and safety concerns
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency standards
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on resident progress

Transportation

  • Transport residents to school, appointments, court, or community activities
  • Maintain vehicle logs and ensure safe driving practices

Team Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Support a positive and unified team culture

Skills

  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and emotionally regulated during high-stress situations
  • Skilled in verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately
  • Comfortable managing aggressive, defiant, or emotionally dysregulated behaviors
  • Ability to follow approved crisis intervention protocols
  • Knowledge of first aid procedures and emergency response protocols
  • Ability to perform personal care tasks with compassion and professionalism
  • Familiarity with medication administration and vital signs monitoring
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively support residents’ needs and collaborate with team members
  • Valid driver’s license for transportation duties when necessary
  • Strong understanding of structured environments and behavioral expectations
  • Ability to consistently enforce rules without favoritism
  • Skilled in redirection, limit-setting, and natural consequences
  • Ability to reinforce positive behaviors through encouragement and accountability
  • Comfortable maintaining authority while building rapport
  • Ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with youth
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ethical behavior in alignment with agency and state regulations
  • Ability to avoid power struggles and respond professionally to manipulation

Job Type: Full-time and Part-time

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
