Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a 13-week Med/Surg Telemetry night shift assignment in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 32-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit (5 Pavilion)
- Patient population includes post-operative surgical, orthopedic, urology, and medical patients; adult and geriatric age groups
- Common diagnoses include hip, shoulder, and knee procedures
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; nurse aides available at a 1:10 ratio
- Remote telemetry monitoring provided 24/7 by monitor techs; charge RN reviews telemetry strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin per protocol; cardiac drip experience preferred
- Equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, IV pumps, pulse oximetry, and sequential compression devices
- Charting performed in Epic; experience required
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- 36 hours per week; full-time position
- Every other weekend required on a set rotation (weekends 1 & 3 or weekends 2 & 4)
- Holiday rotation shared with core staff
- Floating may be required to 3P or 4P (Med/Surg) units or to cover boarders in the Emergency Department; float pool floats first before travelers are rotated in
- Block scheduling is available as long as unit needs are met; scheduling requests are taken into consideration
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience with post-operative and medical patient care required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Cardiac drip titration experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (must be from most recent permanent facility if applicable within last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from this WVU facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a cumulative total of one year before taking a 2-year break
- Orientation includes a general hospital orientation day, a full-day nursing orientation, a full day of computer/Epic training, and two 12-hour preceptored orientation shifts
- Traveler may be asked to fill in as Charge Nurse and can be cross-trained for the role if willing
- Charge nurse typically carries a modified patient assignment of approximately 2 patients, or may be free charge when staffing allows
- House supervisor support available 24/7
- Navy scrubs required; solid color only, no embroidery or patterns; WVU Medicine or solid-color fleece zip-ups permitted in grey, black, navy, or royal blue; closed-toe shoes required (no Crocs)
