Job DescriptionDescription:

  • Work alongside physician and their primary medical assistant or nurse when seeing patients in the office.
  • Assist with bedside exams and procedures to include but not limited to: I&D abscess, hemorrhoid banding, thrombectomy, bedside sigmoidoscopy, wound care, etc.
  • Set up and stock examination rooms in preparation for clinics.
  • Maintain clean and neat exam rooms, close down the exam rooms after clinic is completed.
  • Clean scopes and instruments in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Assist patients in understanding their particular diagnosis.
  • If needed, schedule the following: surgical and endoscopy cases, radiology tests, endorectal ultrasounds, anal manometry, etc.
  • Call the hospital to coordinate the scheduling of a surgery, procedure or study.
  • Send prescriptions under physician supervision.
  • Instruct patients on how to do bowel preparations prior to procedure/surgery.
  • Call patients with pathology, radiology, and laboratory results.
  • Answer and triage patient telephone calls, text messages, and portal requests.
  • Work the open recall queue as assigned.
  • Be the default coverage for clinical staff PTO, call-outs, and early departures/late arrivals. This overrides your assigned work schedule (except when call coverage is only needed), and you will be notified by your supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Act as the primary clinical support when the physician’s medical assistant or nurse is out of the office. This will include the above listed responsibilities, in addition to but not limited to: scheduling, prior authorizations, completing hospital orders and disability paperwork, etc.
  • Adhere to and acknowledge assigned work schedule; your work schedule will be assigned two months in advance and will be provided to you via email by your supervisor.
  • Although infrequent, your work schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen events, inclement weather, surgeons’ schedules, and clinical staff PTO and call-outs. If needed, your supervisor will provide you with verbal/written notice as soon as a change needs to be made.
  • Communicate with pharmaceutical representatives.
  • Punctual and excellent work attendance. (No shows and frequent call outs are not an option.)
  • Flexible to the surgeon’s and assigned work schedule. (No routine need to rush out at end of clinic and adapts to changes in assigned work schedule if needed.)
  • Ability to multi task while keeping alert to patient and surgeon’s needs.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between three office locations as needed.
  • Team player assisting other clinical staff with calls, tasks, and coverage when needed.

Requirements:

  • Registered Medical Assistant degree/certification required.
  • EMR knowledge.
