Job Description
The Manufacturing Technical Writer is responsible for creating, updating, and managing technical documentation that supports manufacturing operations. This includes standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process flows, and training materials. The role ensures documentation is clear, accurate, compliant with industry standards, and accessible to production staff, engineers, quality teams, and auditors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, write, edit, and maintain manufacturing documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, and assembly manuals.
- Create process flow diagrams and visual aids to support comprehension.
- Partner with engineering, quality, operations, and other teams to gather source information and verify technical accuracy.
- Interview subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand processes, equipment, and requirements.
- Maintain document control standards; assist in audits by providing required documentation.
- Review and update existing documentation to reflect process changes, continuous improvement initiatives, or new product introductions.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing methodologies to identify process inefficiencies and eliminate waste.
- Support training initiatives by creating user-friendly guides and learning materials.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience is acceptable.
- 2–5 years in technical writing, preferably within manufacturing, engineering, or regulated environments.
Skills:
- Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Visio, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).
- Experience with document control systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
