Provide advanced emergency nursing care in a dynamic community hospital setting focused on both adult and pediatric patients. This role demands expertise in acute clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage a diverse patient population in a fast-paced emergency department. Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Emergency Room settings; first-timers not accepted
- BLS, NIHSS, ACLS, and PALSS certifications required
- Skilled in pediatric emergency care including conditions such as asthma, seizures, and sickle cell crisis
- Proficient in psychiatric patient management including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior control
- Expertise in IV therapy and phlebotomy including arterial line and central line care
- Respiratory care knowledge including intubation, chest tube management, and ABG interpretation
- Experience with neurological emergencies, specifically stroke (CVA)
- Competence in cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, including 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Familiarity with isolation precautions, triage protocols, and orthopedic splint application
- Ability to float within metro emergency departments to meet operational needs
Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient-centered emergency care in a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio environment
- Administer emergency medications, continuous IV sedation, paralytics, and vasopressors
- Participate in regular weekend shifts (every third weekend) and float between metro emergency units as required
- Use EPIC for comprehensive and accurate electronic charting
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes within a 240-bed facility
Shift details include mid-shifts (14:45 - 03:15) on a 6-week schedule with coverage of 8 weekend shifts per period. Staff wear navy scrubs to maintain a professional and consistent appearance.
