Job Description: Church Secretary
Redeemer Lutheran Church is seeking a dedicated, organized, and personable Church Secretary to join
our team. The Church Secretary will serve as the primary administrative support for the congregation and
the pastor, assisting with communication, office management, and general office tasks. This individual
will be an integral part of supporting the day-to-day operations of our church and its ministries.
Overview:
The Church Secretary serves as the primary administrative support for the churchs day-to-day operations.
This role requires strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills to ensure the smooth
functioning of the church office and support the church’s ministry activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Administrative Support:
o Manage church office phone system and direct calls as needed.
o Respond to emails and other correspondence in a timely manner.
o Maintain and update church records, including membership rolls, visitor logs, and
baptism/marriage records.
o Prepare and proofread documents, such as newsletters, bulletins, and worship service
programs.
o Coordinate the church calendar by scheduling meetings, events, and church facilities.
2. Communication:
o Maintain clear communication between the church leadership, staff, volunteers, and
congregation.
o Prepare and distribute weekly bulletins, newsletters, and announcements.
3. General Office Management:
o Maintain office supplies, ensuring the office is well-stocked and organized.
o Coordinate volunteer schedules for office assistance and worship, as necessary.
o Perform basic clerical duties such as filing and photocopying.
Responsibilities:
Answer and direct phone calls, emails, and general inquiries.
Prepare and distribute weekly bulletins, newsletters, and other communications.
Manage and maintain church records, including membership and attendance.
Assist with scheduling meetings, events, and church facilities.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
Coordinate and communicate with volunteers and ministry leaders.
Maintain the church office and supplies, ensuring everything is well-organized and stocked.
Support the pastor and church staff with administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred) (additional
education or certification in office management or a related field is a plus).
Previous experience in an office administrative role, preferably in a church or nonprofit setting,
experience in a church environment is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office equipment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A heart for ministry and serving others, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Knowledge of church operations, ministry functions, and Christian values is a plus.
A positive, team-oriented attitude and a heart for serving others in a faith-based environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Occasional lifting of office supplies or event materials up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule:
Flexibility on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, up to 12 hours per week
Pay will be $12 per hour.
Start date will be April 1, 2025. Position will be evaluated monthly as church needs will change
with the call of a new Pastor.
