TRINITY WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

Archivist

Salary Range: 80k to 90k (Salary ranges and salary determination is based on experience & qualifications)

Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an Archivist. As the oldest Catholic women’s college in America, now widely known for its creative transformation as a university serving a large majority of Black and Latina students from the Washington region, Trinity has and continues to make substantial contributions to the nation’s reservoir of knowledge on women’s education and leadership, Catholic higher education and religious congregations, institutional change, curricular reform and the implementation of inclusive excellence pedagogy to ensure the success of new populations of college students. Scholars researching these and other topics often seek access to Trinity’s Archives because they house essential documents and invaluable perspectives on the growth and development of this unique institution and its place on the landscape of American higher education.

The Archivist plays a pivotal role in preserving and making accessible the historical memory of Trinity. This position reports to and works closely with the University Librarian to ensure the comprehensive management of the university's archival collections in all formats. The Archivist is responsible for their long-term preservation, discoverability, and use by the university community and external researchers, while providing leadership in developing archival policies, procedures, and services that align with best practices and the institution's mission.

The Archivist is responsible for collection management according to national and international standards for records management and document preservation; development and oversight of a digital archives system; providing access and reference services; engaging in outreach both on campus and through networks of alumnae and friends to ensure ongoing acquisition and appropriate use of materials; development of policies and procedures for archives management, and supervision of all library staff who will interface with the collection. The Archivist also supervises student workers and provides classes on archives usage for student researchers.

Candidates must present at least a master’s degree from an ALA accredited program with a specialization in archives or a master’s degree in a relevant field (History, Information Science, Museum Studies) with significant archival coursework/experience; at least 2 years of professional experience in an archival repository preferably in an academic setting; demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and best practices; experience with collection management software; strong understanding of digital preservation principles and practices; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

When applying please send a complete c.v. and cover letter of no more than two pages explaining how your skills and qualifications matches the position requirements.
