POSITION SUMMARY:

The Referral Specialist is responsible for a wide range of administrative duties to include incoming referral processing, verification of benefits, inputting data into electronic medical record, communication with patients, referral sources, and insurance companies, and other tasks assigned.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate, track, and communicate information related to related to patient referrals
  • Prioritize and process incoming referrals according to established procedure
  • Enter complete and accurate demographic and current insurance information in electronic medical record
  • Assemble information concerning patient clinical background and referral requests/expectations
  • Contact insurance companies to ensure verification of benefits and prior authorization approval
  • Handle information and status requests from patients and referral sources
  • Forward referrals to the correct team member for completion of further processing
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Demonstrate positive interactions with patients, vendors, fellow employees, and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as required; daily tasks may vary based upon department needs.


QUALIFICATIONS/ATTRIBUTES:

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: 1-2 years
  • Medical office experience: 1-2 years
  • Electronic Health Records: 1-2 years
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Teamwork orientation
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Good judgement
  • Resourcefulness in problem solving
