Noninvasive Cardiologist – South Texas VA Health Care System
San Antonio, Texas | Full-Time

Our organization in the picturesque city of San Antonio, Texas, is on the lookout for two exceptional Noninvasive Cardiologists to become part of the Cardiology Department / Heart Center Services. This department is recognized as the only VA Heart Center in the nation, integrating both Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery into a cohesive service.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver both inpatient and outpatient noninvasive cardiology services.
  • Manage the cardiology clinic (typically seeing 6–7 patients per half day).
  • Participate in CCU coverage, inpatient consultations, and noninvasive testing (including echocardiograms and stress tests).
  • Engage in the interpretation of echo and stress lab results.
  • Contribute to the education of cardiology fellows and other trainees.
  • Optional involvement in research and academic pursuits.
  • No supervisory duties required.

Work Environment

The role encompasses a blend of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, serving a patient demographic that primarily includes general cardiology cases, with occasional rare congenital conditions. You will be supported by a growing team of professionals, including interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, five full-time and three part-time non-invasive cardiologists, RNs, EKG/echo technicians, and APPs.

Our facilities offer comprehensive cardiovascular services, featuring advanced imaging technologies such as Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI. You will work in a dedicated Heart Center environment within one of the fastest-growing VA hospitals in the nation, with access to academic resources through cardiology fellowship programs.

Quality of Life / Call

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (unless on call). Call duties are shared among staff with varying frequency, typically involving no more than six weekends per year, along with some holiday and weekday coverage. Weekend and holiday responsibilities are limited to in-person CCU and consultation rounds.

  • Starting salary: approximately $330,000+ (negotiable based on experience and board certification).

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • U.S. Citizenship is strongly preferred (non-citizens may be considered if qualified candidates are not available).
  • Board certification in Cardiology is mandatory.
  • Board certification in Echocardiography is highly preferred.
  • Must be eligible for a full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
