Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist with (1-2 years exp) to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will operate CNC lathes and milling machines to produce high-precision components used in our forged and heat-treated tool lines. You will read and interpret blueprints, set up machines, inspect parts, and work closely with engineering and quality teams to meet tight tolerances and production goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes and mills (2-axis, 3-axis, possibly 4-axis) based on production needs.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Select appropriate tools, cutters, fixturing, and work-holding devices for jobs.
  • Perform first-article inspections, in-process inspections, and final part inspection to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Use measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.) to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Monitor machine operations, make adjustments, and troubleshoot issues (tool wear, program errors, part quality).
  • Maintain CNC machines, including periodic cleaning, lubrication, and calibration.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and production planning to optimize processes, reduce scrap, and improve efficiency.
  • Document machining processes, maintain accurate production logs, and suggest process improvements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational school training preferred.
  • Proven experience as a CNC machinist (lathe and milling) in a production environment. (1-2 years Exp)
  • Familiarity with CNC programming (G-code) or willingness to learn.
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and CAD drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Familiarity with forging/heat-treated materials is a plus (Ajax is known for forged alloy tools). ajaxtools.com+1
  • Basic computer skills; experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Gibbs, etc.) is beneficial. Ajax’s machining department reportedly supports CAM work. Ajax Manufacturing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow established safety protocols.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing environment (industrial shop floor).
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, etc.).
  • Potential for shift work depending on production schedule.
  • Physical demands include standing, lifting moderate weights, and operating/adjusting machinery.
