Position Summary:

A Superintendent within each division is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of each crew and project within the field and ensures the project is accomplished accurately and safely.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • MOT Superintendent develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency and suggests efficiency improvement activities where needed.
  • Analyzes, handles, and reviews loss and damage claims caused by accidents.
  • Work as a team with the Project Manager in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation of each project.
  • Working along the highway, overseeing the completion of projects.
  • Interpret construction documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Develop a working understanding of each project's plans, specifications, and other requirements and constraints, along with ensuring all field Foremen and Laborers understand their responsibilities for executing job duties.
  • Coordinate and oversee the progress of work being performed daily.
  • Have a good line of communication with prime contractors regarding job progress as it affects the start of each phase of their work.
  • Upon completion of the project, verify dimensions, elevations, alignment, and quality standards prior to proceeding to the next phase.
  • Consult with the Project Manager regarding any questions about interpreting the construction documents.
  • Communicate with the Project Manager about any conflicts in the construction documents or existing field conditions.
  • Upon request, provide the Project Manager with details of the progress of each phase of the project.
  • Provide the Project Manager with a two-week lookahead schedule.
  • Conduct daily huddles with the crews.
  • Assist in the selection of MOT personnel and evaluate their performance.
  • This role is based in the office and spends time between two locations: Elsie, MI, or Grand Blanc, MI, depending on the division's needs. Must be able to go to both places.
  • As well as other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements include the following:

  • Valid Driver's License, CDL A or B (preferred, not required)
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor Certification,OSHA 30 & DOT flagger certification (preferred, not required)
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Works well in a team environment where situations and demands change daily.
  • Ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Strong ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • This position can require working nights, weekends, and out-of-town to work on projects that could be a week(s) at a time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, view, and create written documents. The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders or uneven terrain. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, such as operating and repairing vibrating machinery, using wrenches, hand tools, etc., and operating motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must lift or push/pull objects up to 90 lbs. without assistance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
