Tax Associate – Federal

Location: Troy, MI (Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Associate – Federal to join our team. In this role, you will support Tax Managers and department personnel with U.S. Federal and multi-state income and franchise tax compliance, income tax accounting, and various special projects. This position offers the opportunity to develop deep technical expertise while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing tax organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection and preparation of Federal and multi-state income and franchise tax returns, including fixed assets, apportionment, and book-to-tax differences.
  • Prepare estimated tax calculations, account reconciliations, accrual-to-return adjustments, and handle various special projects as assigned.
  • Conduct tax research and support planning initiatives across Federal, State, and Local income taxation.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provisions, including deferred tax analysis, FIN 48 assessments, SOX compliance, reconciliations, and required disclosures.
  • Support tax audits through preparation of audit-ready workpapers and additional documentation as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining strong internal controls across all tax accounts and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance tax department processes, drive efficiency, and reduce risk.
  • Manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate timely updates to Supervisors.
  • Demonstrate initiative by seeking opportunities to improve work product quality, expand business knowledge, and build strong cross-functional relationships.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Academic and hands-on understanding of U.S. tax principles, ASC 740, and FIN 48
  • Proficiency with OneSource, Checkpoint, Microsoft Office, and OneStream
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Taxation
  • 2–3+ years of relevant tax experience
  • CPA certification
  • Experience with Alteryx, PowerBI, or other analytics/visualization tools
