Assembly Lead
Reports To: Production Manager

Summary
The Assembly Lead is responsible for leading, training, and overseeing a team of Assemblers within the production department to ensure multiple projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as a key coordination point between assembly, project management, and engineering, supporting effective execution, resource allocation, and continuous improvement across production operations.
Job Requirements
- Must successfully complete required safety training, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures
- Ability to meet or exceed established production goals
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft 365 and ERP systems (Epicor)
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate basic production machinery and train others in safe operation
- Working knowledge of quality standards, inspection requirements, and documentation practices
- Proficiency using hand and power tools common to a production shop environment
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings using both standard and metric measurements
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to work within tight tolerances
Job Duties
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Interact professionally with vendors and customers as needed to support production activities
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment through regular housekeeping and adherence to safety procedures
- Support complex assembly tasks including tight-tolerance fit-ups, laminating, trimming operations, and specialty assemblies as required
- Operate and train team members on production machinery and tools in accordance with safety standards
- Maintain accurate material counts and coordinate movement of materials to and from workstations
- Ensure accurate completion of quality, production, and job tracking documentation within the ERP system (Epicor)
- Perform and support visual and basic mechanical quality inspections; identify and report deviations from drawings, specifications, and tolerances in a timely manner
- Monitor assembly line performance and product quality; provide hands-on training and coaching to maintain efficiency, consistency, and workmanship standards
- Coordinate with painting, silk screen, and other departments to ensure production timelines, quality expectations, and safety requirements are met
- Provide guidance and recommend alternative assembly, fastening, and build methods to the Production Manager and Engineering team to improve manufacturability and efficiency
- Design and initiate fixtures and assembly line setups to support efficient workflow and repeatability
- Strategically schedule, assign, and allocate work across assembly teams by assessing individual skills, experience, workload, and project requirements to maximize efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery
- Act as a key liaison between the assembly team, project management, and engineering to ensure alignment on priorities, design intent, and execution throughout the production lifecycle
- Take projects from inception through completion, including fabrication of complex jigs, displays, prototypes, and assemblies from raw materials using all available equipment
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Assemblers, ensuring alignment with production goals, quality standards, and company objectives
Work Environment
- This job operates in a production shop environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy and can sometimes be loud.
- Hearing protection is provided on a voluntary-use basis.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the contributor is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle controls; and talk or hear.
- The contributor frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The contributor is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop.
- The contributor must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and periodically lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Must follow sound lifting techniques and if needed ask for help when lifting over 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type & Schedule
- This is a full-time position.
- Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 5:00am to 3:30pm.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
- No travel is expected for this position.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred. 3+ years of cabinet installation experience. Carpentry or cabinet making experience will be considered in lieu of installation experience.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and substance abuse screen.
