Job Title: Bartender

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Hourly Tip Eligible

Reports to: Restaurant General Manager

Job Summary: The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving beverages to customers, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction, and maintaining a clean and organized bar area. This role requires a thorough knowledge of mixology, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions:
Customer Service:

  • Greet customers warmly and provide a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Take beverage orders from customers and servers.
  • Provide recommendations and answer questions about the menu and beverages.

Drink Preparation:

  • Mix and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and standards.
  • Create new and innovative cocktails to enhance the bar menu.
  • Ensure proper portion control and presentation of beverages.

Bar Maintenance:

  • Maintain a clean and organized bar area, including bar tops, sinks, glasses, and equipment.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations regarding food and beverage handling.
  • Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies.

Cash Handling:

  • Process transactions accurately using the POS system.
  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, and customer tabs efficiently.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling and reconciliation of the cash drawer.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with servers and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist in training new bar staff as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure high-quality service.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Verify the identification and age of customers to ensure compliance with legal drinking age requirements.
  • Monitor customer behavior and consumption to prevent over-serving and ensure a safe environment.
  • Handle difficult situations with tact and professionalism, including dealing with intoxicated patrons.
  • Adhere to Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) guidelines and ensure all staff follow these protocols.
  • Complete and maintain RBS certification as required by state law.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a bartender in a high-volume setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of mixology, beverage recipes, and ingredients.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification (if required by state law).
  • Ability to obtain a Food Handlers card
  • RBS card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with creating and promoting signature cocktails.
  • Familiarity with bar equipment and tools, including POS systems.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling and inventory management.

Work Environment:

  • High-energy, dynamic bar setting with loud music and large crowds.
  • Fast-paced atmosphere requiring quick thinking and adaptability.
