Job Description

Medical Assistant (MA)

Optimum Human + Southwest Women's Oncology | Albuquerque, New Mexico

Why This Role Matters

Every patient encounter is an opportunity to make someone feel seen, safe, and cared for.

Some are facing a cancer diagnosis. Some are on a journey to reclaim their health and vitality. Some are simply seeking answers they've long been denied.

The Medical Assistant is often the first clinical face a patient sees-and the steady presence that shapes their entire experience. That responsibility matters deeply.

We believe that clinical precision and genuine human warmth are not competing values - they are inseparable. We hire for attitude and aptitude above all else. Credentials matter, but who you are and how you grow matter more.

Who We Are

Southwest Women's Oncology (SWWO) is New Mexico's leading gynecologic oncology practice, delivering advanced cancer care with skill, courage, and compassion.

Optimum Human and Optimum Infusion extend that mission into performance medicine, infusion services, longevity, recovery, hormone optimization, medical weight loss, peptide therapies, hyperbaric medicine, aesthetics, and human performance.

Together, we operate as a single integrated platform committed to one mission:

We exist to deliver new possibilities in medical care, human performance, and health by uniting passion, knowledge, and skill.

The Opportunity

This is not a "check vitals, hand off the chart, clock out" role. You will work as an essential clinical partner alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, and care teams across:

  • Gynecologic oncology and specialty cancer care
  • Infusion therapy support and patient monitoring
  • Hormone optimization and performance medicine
  • Medical weight loss programs
  • Aesthetic and wellness services
  • Emerging protocols across the Optimum platform

You'll practice at the intersection of clinical care and human connection - and help define what an exceptional patient experience looks like.

What You'll Own

Clinical & Patient Care

  • Greet and room patients, escort to exam rooms, and establish a warm, professional environment from the moment they arrive.
  • Perform and document vital signs, patient histories, and pre-visit assessments accurately and thoroughly.
  • Assist physicians and APPs with procedures, examinations, and clinical tasks across oncology and specialty care settings.
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as directed by the clinical team and per established protocols.
  • Operate clinical equipment including EKG machines, glucometers, pulse oximeters, spirometers, and other devices as required.

Patient Education & Support

  • Prepare patients for procedures and explain clinical processes clearly and compassionately.
  • Provide discharge instructions and post-visit care guidance as directed by the provider.
  • Serve as a calm, reassuring presence for patients navigating complex or challenging diagnoses.

Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, infusion nurses, schedulers, and administrative staff for seamless care delivery.
  • Manage exam room turnover, supply inventory, and clinical readiness to support high patient volumes.
  • Communicate effectively with the care team regarding patient status, updates, and outstanding needs.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete records in EMR systems per regulatory and practice standards.
  • Follow all safety, infection-control, HIPAA, and medication handling requirements without exception.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and the patient experience.
  • Participate in team huddles, training, and quality initiatives.
  • Raise the standard through your presence, preparation, and example.

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days

  • Independently rooming patients and completing pre-visit workflows.
  • Demonstrating mastery of clinical protocols across both practices.
  • Building trust with patients, providers, and teammates.
  • Consistently delivering accurate, timely documentation.

First 6 Months

  • Trusted clinical partner to physicians and APPs.
  • Contributing improvement ideas and process enhancements.
  • Demonstrating strong ownership and sound clinical judgment.

First Year

  • Viewed as a culture carrier and clinical anchor on the team.
  • Helping elevate the patient experience and operational excellence.
  • Consistently embodying the Optimum Standard.

Who Thrives Here

We want people who bring relentless positivity, a hunger to learn, and the drive to elevate everyone around them. You will likely thrive if:

  • You take ownership rather than waiting for direction.
  • You believe details matter.
  • You enjoy solving problems and seek continuous improvement.
  • You care deeply about patients and their families.
  • You value teamwork and accountability equally.
  • You're coachable, curious, and committed to mastery.

What You Bring

Required

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Registered or nationally certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current BLS certification; venipuncture certification required if applicable to the role.
  • Proficiency with clinical equipment including EKG machines, glucometers, pulse oximeters, spirometers, autoclave, blood pressure cuffs (adult, infant, pediatric), AED, nebulizer, and related devices.
  • Experience with medical software, EMR/practice management systems, and standard office technology.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and precise in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to every interaction.

Preferred

  • Experience in oncology, specialty care, or a multi-specialty clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with infusion therapy workflows and monitoring.
  • Experience with MISYS, E-Prescribe, or comparable practice management systems.

Our Culture

We act with courage and embrace accountability.

We serve with precision and hold ourselves to impeccable standards-then raise them.

We reject mediocrity and the comfort of "good enough."

We measure success not only by outcomes, but by the integrity, excellence, and humanity we bring to every interaction.

Way Better. Extraordinary by Design.

If you crave mastery, meaning, and measurable impact-welcome home.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Health benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development and continuing education support
  • Opportunity to grow within the Optimum Platform
