Position Overview:
This is a position for an entry level andrologist/endocrinologist laboratory tech to perform andrology/endocrinology laboratory services in accordance with Illume Fertility's Protocol Manuals.
This is a non-exempt (hourly) paid position reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Director. A Laboratory Technician works under indirect supervision in performing assigned duties and responsibilities according to Illume’s Protocol Manuals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- A Level 1 Tech will participate in laboratory operations and laboratory services including the following:
- Sperm preparation for IUI and IVF
- Sperm cryopreservation, storage, and thawing
- Epididymal/Testicular sperm processing for IVF
- Recording and reporting laboratory results.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Identify specimens through chain of custody processes according to SOP for all procedures, including disposal of specimens.
- Maintenance and operation of endocrine analyzer
- QC of media, instruments and other disposable materials.
- Preparation and portioning of media using sterile technique.
- Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain inventory at acceptable levels for all laboratory areas, including endocrine, andrology and IVF.
- Organize and maintain accurate records, including patients test reports, and invoices related to purchase of inventory.
- Interpret and analyze test results performed in the laboratory in a timely manner when reporting to referring physicians.
- Multitask throughout the day.
- Ability to keep up with consistent electronic communications.
- May assist senior staff in training and onboarding new lab staff.
- Keep abreast of the latest research, evaluate and initiate new procedures to enhance the capabilities of the lab.
- Expect to respond to any problems arising with laboratory equipment that may occur during the night and or weekends.
- Help and perform general IVF and medical assistant duties, as requested.
- All lab equipment, supplies and facilities must be clean and well organized at all times.
- Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments within the office to disseminate information and communicate areas for continual quality improvement.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, database development, e-mail, Internet access, computer networks, intra-office communications are necessary.
Qualifications
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Medical Technology, or MLT. Must have maintained a “B” average or greater in relevant laboratory science
- Andrology experience beneficial and/or completion of onsite training and surpassing the probationary period.
- General knowledge and operation of laboratory equipment. Exhibits no fear of technology or equipment that is malfunctioning or in need of repair.
- Extensive computer literacy. Includes intermediate to advanced knowledge of all of the following: Microsoft Word, Excel, Understanding of the Internet and e-mail is necessary.
- Must satisfactorily complete on-the-job training provided within the Introductory Period, unless granted an extension.
- Must complete any pending certification examinations within one year of hire date.
- Must supply copies of degrees, certifications, training and transcripts for personnel files
