Responsibilities of the Medical Secretary:
- Receive patients and guests with professionalism and respect, making a favorable initial impression.
- Handle office communications, assist with report development, and offer clerical support to the practice.
- Assist the medical staff by completing daily duties that contribute to the seamless and effective functioning of the office.
- Efficiently manage patient flow, including check-in, check-out, and coordinating follow-up care.
- Accurately process patient transactions using payment processing equipment and ensure all services are billed correctly.
- Proactively review patient charts prior to appointments to confirm active insurance coverage and necessary authorizations.
- Maintain proficiency across multiple digital systems simultaneously, including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and various communication platforms.
Qualifications of the Medical Secretary:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Healthcare Office Management or a related area favored.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a healthcare office setting required.
- Demonstrated skill in electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical billing software required.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities essential.
- Proven capacity to multitask, prioritize efficiently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment required.
- Careful attention to detail and a dedication to accuracy in all activities essential.
- Demonstrated proficiency operating within an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and managing workflows across multiple computer screens.
- Proven ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical setting, effectively prioritizing tasks to maintain patient flow.
- Flexibility and willingness to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary (e.g., when the provider's schedule runs behind).
- Tolerance for a predominantly sedentary role, requiring long periods of sitting and focused computer work.
