Job Description

As CAD Drafter, you'll support a government-funded structural documentation program. You will be responsible for creating, interpreting, and reviewing precise SolidWorks CAD drawings that must meet strict quality, compliance, and documentation standards. You may occasionally travel to government sites within the United States to document existing structures, coordinating with government agencies and internal resources to prepare site visit reports, produce and review drawings, and meet other contractual requirements. When time allows, you may support other non-government product design and engineering projects as a CAD specialist.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives on accuracy, enjoys improving systems and workflows, and can manage their own projects while coordinating with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.

Current contracts are funded through September 2026. Continued employment is conditional upon new contract awards.

What You’ll Do

CAD & Technical Drafting

  • Create and review detailed SolidWorks CAD drawings for structural components and assemblies
  • Support the creation of technical manuals for the structures
  • Prepare metadata for drawing submittal to government agencies
  • Interpret engineering requirements, specifications, and redlines into accurate production-ready drawings
  • Ensure drawings comply with contract requirements, internal standards, and applicable codes
  • Maintain organized drawing packages, revision histories, and documentation logs

Quality Assurance

  • Perform meticulous self-checks and coordinate secondary and tertiary checks by internal team members to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness
  • Identify inconsistencies, errors, or gaps in documentation and proactively resolve them

Project Coordination

  • Manage multiple drawing packages and priorities across active projects
  • Track milestones, revisions, and deliverables to support on-time submissions
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, project managers, and leadership on progress and risks

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify repetitive CAD or documentation tasks that could be automated or streamlined
  • Assist in developing scripts, macros, templates, or lightweight tools (e.g., SolidWorks macros, Excel, Python, or similar) to improve efficiency
  • Help standardize drawing templates, naming conventions, and documentation workflows

What You’ll Need:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks defined as:
    • Fully defined/constrained component and large assembly modeling
    • Detailed 2D drawing creation, including views, sections, details, annotations, title blocks, weldments and dimensional callouts
    • Experience with model-based definition (MBD)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and comfort working under strict quality requirements
  • Ability to manage tasks and deadlines independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Ability to travel to government locations within the US: <10%
  • Willingness to submit to a background check

Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications

  • Experience working on government or regulated contracts
  • Familiarity with QA/QC documentation processes
  • Basic coding or scripting experience (e.g., SolidWorks macros, VBA, Python, Excel automation)
  • Exposure to project management tools or methods
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or experience with drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field.
