Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project requirements, and supporting successful project delivery from concept through construction. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for residential and commercial construction projects.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to determine scope, materials, and labor requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather essential estimating data.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between proposals and construction documents, including scope and specifications.
- Utilize estimating software (Buildertrend Square Takeoff, Planswift, etc.) to prepare comprehensive and clearly organized estimates.
- Conduct site visits to assess project conditions, gather data, and validate scope requirements.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure accuracy and alignment with project scope.
- Negotiate pricing with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive bids that meet project objectives.
- Prepare detailed take-offs and quantity surveys.
- Maintain and update cost databases, pricing libraries, and production rates for future estimating use.
- Track and monitor project costs during construction to support adherence to established budgets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field (preferred).
- 5–10 years of proven experience as a Construction Estimator (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Buildertrend Square Takeoff (Planswift or Equiv.), and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 annually (commensurate with experience and estimating proficiency)
