Position Overview
The Director of Occupational Therapy is responsible for clinical oversight of the Occupational Therapy Department, supervising Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians. The role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains departmental standards, and promotes quality patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Oversight

Supervise and mentor OT staff, COTAs, and Rehabilitation Technicians.

Oversee clinical education and competency evaluations.

Ensure compliance with state regulations, professional standards, and departmental policies.

Maintain and update OT policies, including scope of care, evaluation standards, documentation requirements, and discharge planning protocols.
Patient Care (≈80%)

Evaluate and treat patients using evidence-based occupational therapy interventions.

Develop individualized treatment plans to maximize functional independence.

Monitor patient progress and adjust plans as needed.

Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.

Educate patients and families on therapy goals and home strategies.
Administrative & Program Development (≈20%)

Assist with program development initiatives.

Participate in departmental planning and quality improvement activities.

Ensure documentation standards and workflow efficiency.
Education & Licensure Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) – Required

Current California Occupational Therapist License – Required

Compliance with all additional California Therapy Board and Rehabilitation Services Department qualifications – Required

Membership in AOTA – Preferred
Experience Requirements

Minimum 3 years of Occupational Therapy experience – Required

Prior leadership or supervisory experience – Strongly Preferred

Ability to balance administrative duties with direct patient care
