Job Summary

This position exists to support state agencies and local governments in their efforts to protect the public in the event of any type of emergency through ensuring that the State Emergency Operations Center, and it's associated entities, are in a constant state of readiness as well as ensuring that the HSEM main office facility is maintained as a comfortable, safe, efficient and productive working environment for HSEM staff on a daily basis.

The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of work experience in emergency management, project management, law enforcement or related field. A bachelor's degree in emergency management, project management, law enforcement, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Work experience must include all of the following:

• Experience and knowledge of building maintenance, operations, alarms, and various building systems.
• Knowledge in various communications systems used by and for emergency response (i.e., analog, digital phone systems, cellular phone systems, UHF, VHF, and family radio systems.
• Effective written and oral communications skills including delivering work presentations and/or public speaking.
• Experience working using computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management software.
• Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of emergency management basics at state, local or federal level.
2. Completion of MN Emergency Management Basic Academy or ability to complete with in 2 years of hire.
3. Working Knowledge of the functions of the state emergency operations center (SEOC).

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting 50 pound items and frequently moving and transporting objects such as heavy tools and heavy file boxes. This job may require positioning self to move to a significant degree across rough terrain or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
