The Carol Stream Public Library is seeking a dedicated, full-time team member who is bilingual in Spanish and English and passionate about community engagement. This role offers a unique opportunity to expand our Spanish-language programs and support patrons through high-quality translation and outreach services.
Those with an MLIS are eligible for the Librarian position title; those with a Bachelor's degree are eligible for the Associate position title.
Full-time employees are enrolled in IMRF and eligible to enroll in benefits including BCBS HMO health plan (80% CSPL funded), Delta Dental PPO plan (employee-only coverage paid for by CSPL), VSP vision insurance, retirement investment fund (pre-tax and Roth options), and Flexible Spending Accounts. Full-time employees receive life insurance coverage of $30,000 and have an option to enroll in additional supplemental life insurance. Paid time off accruals for full-time employees include 7 paid holidays, 3 Personal days, 2 Floating Holidays, 3 weeks of accrued Vacation, and 12 days of annual accrued Sick time.
Position Summary:
Provide services and programs for the knowledge and enjoyment of the Library’s customers
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Providing reference and reader’s advisory for all patrons
• Providing engaging programs in Spanish and English
• Participating in outreach events
• Cultivating material collections in English and Spanish
• Collaborating with the Youth Service Bilingual Associate to propose new services for the Spanish speaking community
• Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Education Requirements:
• MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited school to qualify for "Librarian" title/ $24 hourly
• Bachelor's degree for "Associate" title/ $20 hourly (with limited job duties)
Experience:
• One to three years working with children or teens in an educational setting
• One year librarian experience preferred
• One year customer service experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Communicates verbally and in writing in both Spanish and English
• Collaborates as a team member in addition to working independently
• Knowledge of library materials for youth and collection management
• Knowledge of reference and reader’s advisory resources
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion
