Department: Mortgage Processing
Reports To: Sr. Residential Lending Officer
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the general supervision of the Sr. Residential Lending Officer. Prepares loan files for underwriting to ensure it meets the standards set by FHA, FNMA, FHLMC, RI and MA Housing programs. Supports, and adheres to, the Bank’s regulatory compliance objectives.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs any functions necessary, within scope of authority and expertise, to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to customers and the community in which it serves.
- Evaluate borrower financial records, including credit history, income, tax returns, and debt-to-income (DTI) ratios to determine credit worthiness.
- Analyze property appraisals to confirm property value and condition meet FHA safety and security requirements.
- Ensure all loan packages strictly adhere to FHA/HUD guidelines, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac as well as state and federal lending regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple applications at a time.
- Answering inquiries and questions from borrowers, processors, and mortgage originators.
- Makes credit decisions within limits of authority.
- Assist the secondary market desk to research and complete missing items.
- Responds to secondary market audits.
- Communicates FHA and Secondary Market updates and changes through training
materials and scheduled sessions.
- Assists in the preparation for External/Internal Audits and regulatory examinations
- Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines.
- Maintains an acceptable registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System
(NMLS), as well as, the unique identifier assigned by the NMLS.
OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
13. Performs related and unrelated duties as may be required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, plus specialized course work and training. Five plus year’s mortgage banking, bilingual preferred. Must be detail oriented and demonstrate strong customer service and communications skills. Good analytical skills. Must be able to use various types of office equipment, including computer terminal.
SUPERVISORY SCOPE:
None
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs work within established guidelines in accordance with department policies and
procedures. May resolve some problems rather than referring them to a manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Direct Endorsement (DE) Certification required. 3-5 Years of mortgage underwriting experience with specific focus on FHA and conventional products.
