Job Title: Bldg Engineer
Location: 8935 Pocahontas Trail Williamsburg VA, 23185
Contract Duration: 3 months contract (Possible for extension/Convert to fulltime)
Pay Rate: $24/hour (W2)
Hours: M-F 7am - 3:30pm, OT as needed. On call for emergencies only
Position Overview
We are seeking a Building Engineer / Maintenance Technician to support building operations at a full industrial site. This role involves maintaining and repairing various building systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural components. The candidate will work independently while following work orders and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely.
This position is physically demanding and requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, and working on rooftops.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, electrical, structural, furniture, fire/life safety, and control systems.
- Support preventive maintenance programs to ensure building systems operate efficiently.
- Conduct inspections of HVAC, plumbing, and fire alarm systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Assist with painting, basic plumbing, electrical work, and general facility maintenance.
- Maintain an energy management program and ensure efficient system operations.
- Respond to emergency maintenance issues as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Provide excellent customer service while interacting with internal teams and site personnel.
Typical Day
- Work independently following work orders.
- Perform building and grounds maintenance tasks.
- Complete painting, mechanical work, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
- Inspect and maintain building systems across the facility.
Required Skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Basic electrical skills
- Basic plumbing skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Comfortable working on rooftops and climbing stairs
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
Nice to Have
- Forklift experience
- HVAC experience
- Dock door experience
- Leveler experience
- Universal CFC certification (preferred)
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Trade school training preferred but not required
- Open to all experience levels (4–5 years preferred)
Software Skills
- Basic computer skills
- Tablet usage
- Email and communication tools
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Safety Requirements
Full safety gear will be provided and required, including:
- Steel-toe boots
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection
- Cut-resistant gloves
Physical Requirements
- Walking and climbing stairs throughout the day
- Working on roofs and ladders
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
