Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years MS RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This opportunity is for an experienced Registered Nurse with a Medical-Surgical and Telemetry background, available on a contract basis in Winston-Salem, NC. The role is based at a prominent academic medical center with 885 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma Designation, and specialized centers for chest pain and stroke care.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Current RN licensure with at least 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry experience
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required)
  • Strong competency in direct and indirect patient care
  • Experience with telemetry strip interpretation, chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains/tubes, and PCA pumps
  • Skilled in managing infusions (e.g., Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, Heparin)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Capability to collaborate within high-stress clinical environments

Responsibilities:

  • Care for patients with diverse medical diagnoses including diabetes, gastrointestinal, respiratory, renal issues, wounds/dressing changes, chest tubes, and tracheostomies
  • Manage patient ratios of approximately 5-6:1 (RN) and 8:1 (CNA)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including CNAs, charge nurses, receptionists, phlebotomy, rapid response team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • Utilize Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
  • Participate in departmental orientation and adapt to unit culture focused on patient-centered care, reliability, and teamwork
  • Float as needed to other Medical-Surgical units
