Position Overview:
Our nursing staff operates in collaborative settings alongside robust interdisciplinary teams, emphasizing a patient-centered care approach within a richly diverse environment. Under the guidance and general oversight of the Nurse Manager, registered nurses apply evidence-based practices in line with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and directives from the medical team. Utilizing their knowledge and skills, registered nurses employ the nursing process to create care plans that address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Experience: At least one (1) year of experience or successful completion of The William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
Licensure and Certification: Must hold a current, unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in the relevant clinical area.
Licensure and Certification: Certification in the clinical specialty area; CNOR certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Fundamental understanding of nursing principles and practices. Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions. Effective communication skills to relay technical or complex information and provide guidance. Strong interpersonal skills essential for interaction with departments, staff, physicians, managers, and patients. Capacity to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment. Dedication to customer service. Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Requires a high level of analytical ability to collect and interpret information from various sources. Must be capable of taking appropriate actions in response to changes, challenges, problems, and emergency situations. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times.
