Position Summary:
The SAFE Home Study Contract Writer is responsible for conducting comprehensive home assessments using the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation (SAFE) methodology for prospective foster, adoptive, or kinship families. This role ensures that all home studies meet licensing, agency, and state regulatory requirements while supporting families through education, evaluation, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct SAFE home study interviews with prospective resource families, including in-home visits and individual interviews.
- Complete required SAFE tools, assessments, and documentation according to agency and state timelines.
- Evaluate applicants’ readiness, suitability, and ability to provide a safe and supportive home environment for children in care.
- Collect and review supporting documentation such as background checks, references, training records, and medical forms.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and thorough written reports utilizing SAFE guidelines, demonstrating objective assessment and strong clinical judgement.
- Collaborate with agency staff regarding case progress, risk factors, and approval recommendations.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Represent the agency professionally with applicants, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Participate in supervision or case consultations as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, Human Services, or a related field (MSW preferred).
- Current certification or formal training in SAFE Home Study methodology (required or ability to obtain immediately upon contracting).
- Experience working with foster care and/or adoption programs, child welfare, or family services.
- Strong interviewing, assessment, and report-writing skills.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, and family systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and maintain a professional standard of accuracy.
Additional Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for home visits.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when needed.
- Must pass background check(s) and maintain required clearances.
