Position Summary

The Environmental Services (EVS) Manager is an essential team member who oversees the daily operations of the EVS department (housekeeping, laundry, and floor technicians) in compliance with all regulatory and infection-control regulations and community standards. This role provides strong leadership to EVS team members and promotes a positive and accountable team culture focused on safety, respect, and customer service. The Manager ensures compliance with regulatory and infection‑control standards, manages department budgets and inventories, and maintains a high level of quality and customer service. In addition, the Manager collaborates closely with Nursing, Facilities, and other departments to support resident satisfaction, operational efficiency, and overall campus safety and appearance.

Essential Functions

  • Train, coach, and schedule staff for all shifts, including weekends and holidays, ensuring adequate staffing to provide cleanliness and orderly conditions. Lead the hiring process for EVS team members, conduct performance evaluations, and deliver corrective action when required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with residents, families, and other departments to build strong relationships and deliver an EVS program that supports a welcoming, clean environment.
  • Develop daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning schedules for all areas of the community, ensuring all services are delivered efficiently and effectively. Ensure adequate staffing and supplies for any major work project.
  • Develop and manage the EVS department budget, forecasting supply usage, and controlling spending to align with financial goals.
  • Establish and review standards and work procedures for all EVS team members in accordance with established regulatory policies and practices of the community.
  • Train team members on emergency response procedures (e.g., spills, fire safety, evacuations) and ensure the department follows proper universal precautions and PPE use.
  • Maintain department policies and procedures for environmental cleaning, waste handling, and chemical safety.
  • Collaborate with Nursing and Facilities teams to address high-risk areas or outbreaks (flu, RSV, COVID-19) and implement infection prevention protocols, including isolation cleaning procedures.
  • Work closely with Facilities, Nursing, Dining Services, and Administration to coordinate cleaning needs and special projects.
  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings to report on EVS performance, as well as attend safety committee and infection control team meetings.
  • Conduct regular stand-up meetings with the EVS team and attend meetings with the Creighton Center.
  • Order and manage inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and ensure proper maintenance of EVS equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor scrubbers).
  • Maintain organized storage rooms following safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain SDS documentation and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, CDC infection control guidance).
  • Provide visual inspection and service quality assurance inspections of resident rooms, common areas, and critical spaces by completing daily walk-throughs.
  • Monitor work in progress and ensure compliance with projected results, service delivery schedules, and standards.
  • Responsible for locking and unlocking resident units for EVS team members as needed and communicating regularly with security for tracking purposes.
  • Oversee all laundry operations and partnerships, including processing, distribution, and quality control.
  • Manage vendor relations and evaluate contracts for linen services, waste disposal, cleaning supplies, and shredding needs.
  • Respond promptly to resident and team members concerns or work orders related to housekeeping, laundry, trash removal, and event setups.
  • Support cleanup, distribution of supplies, and recovery efforts during emergencies, weather events, or facility incidents.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Hospitality Management or Environmental Services Management; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Health Care Environmental Services Professional certification preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of management experience in either Environmental Services, Housekeeping, or Facilities Operations in a health care, hospital, retirement community, or other large hospitality setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with cleaning management, staff supervision, and contractor relations.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, as well as excellent communication, organizational , and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to utilize a participative approach to managing team members.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, state and local environmental policies and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of budgets, contracts and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Services, laundry and floor care, as well as knowledge of and ability to use all associated equipment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
  • Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required.

Salary: $90,000 - $94,000 per year
