The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) has a strong clinical and scientific background in order to establish and/or maintain relationships with academic researchers, key opinion leaders (KOLs) and heads of departments at major universities, research institutions, as well as biotech industry thought leaders. The MSL is responsible for all our KOL engagement and external medical and clinical information. By doing so, the MSL functions as the main contact point for physicians and researchers regarding research studies and medical education regarding our assays.

Internally, they actively engage with project team members to provide clinical information needed for scientific and clinical development of our products. MSLs are responsible for attending conferences of the designated therapeutic area, presenting information to treating physicians and surgeons, both in field and cold calling capacities, as well as pre-arranged presentations and appointments. The MSL works intensively with internal personnel at every step of the product development process where needed and is instrumental in scientific and medical messaging.

The MSL cooperates with clinical investigators, the user community as well as with the commercial department team of SkylineDx to obtain input on the developed diagnostic products. Role will be a remote role and reporting to our San Diego based laboratory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with key opinion leaders such as physicians and healthcare professionals and visit key medical and academic institutions.
  • Interact with clinical practice guideline committee members.
  • Respond to requests for information, clinical and technical, to clients (external and internal).
  • Host advisory boards, clinical presentations, patient advocacy group presentations.
  • Attend all company directed conferences, congresses, and industry trade shows; report information back to organization in a condensed and actionable manner.
  • Maintain expertise in all matters related to the designated therapeutic area; latest clinical research, current therapies, current diagnostic tools available to treat disease, etc.
  • Collaborate with other scientific staff on any research, publication or abstract.
  • Assist in the development of scientific content for field clinical marketing material.
  • Assist in/provide medical education to internal staff and external parties (e.g. physicians and commercial partners).
  • Collection of competitive intelligence.

You have

  • PhD in oncology research, PharmD, MD, NP or PA or other relevant background.
  • Experience in a research or clinical setting.
  • 2 - 3+ years of experience in a MSL or a comparable role.
  • Knowledge of clinical research and clinical trials.
  • Knowledge about molecular diagnostics, genomics, assay validation, statistics.
  • Skills and competences:
  • Ability to comprehend, adapt and interpret pre-clinical and clinical data.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to deliver impactful presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to handle interactions with specialist physicians and key opinion leaders.
  • Team player able to motivate the team and manage both internal and external collaborations.
  • Strong analytical skills and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Used to work according to high-quality standards.
  • Intrinsic motivation to make a positive contribution to health care and provide solutions for patients.
  • Technical/clinical ability to scientifically advise and educate peer-to-peer level with physicians and KOLs as well as internally within SkylineDx.
  • Excellent English oral and written skills are required.
