Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Coder to join our healthcare team. The Medical Billing Coder will be responsible for accurately translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into universal medical codes for billing and insurance purposes. This role is essential for ensuring the financial health of our practice through timely and accurate reimbursement. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and billing procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II codes.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of coded data in compliance with all relevant regulations, payer requirements, and internal policies.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
- Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, insurance regulations, and healthcare laws.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding billing and coding inquiries.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Generate and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree in Health Information Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification as a professional coder (e.g., Certified Professional Coder - CPC, Certified Coding Specialist - CCS, Certified Coding Associate - CCA, or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist - CBCS) is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 2+ years of experience in medical billing and coding(preferably Cardiology experience).
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) and medical billing software.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- In-depth understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
- Familiarity with various insurance payers and their specific billing requirements.
- Knowledge of medical billing regulations and compliance standards.
