Your Role: Middle School Math Teacher
As a Middle School Math Teacher, you will be an integral part of a grade-level team, guiding students on their journey to becoming self-directed learners. Your passion for mathematics will shine through as you refine your mastery of the subject and inspire your students to embrace the joy of learning. You will employ a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ensuring that by the end of eighth grade, students are ready for the academic challenges of high school.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction
- Teach foundational middle school math principles, including ratios, proportions, expressions, equations, and the number system.
- Utilize our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
- Motivate students to tackle problems and think critically about various solutions.
- Foster confidence and meaningful engagement with mathematics.
2. Data Analysis
- Collaborate weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work samples and assessment trends.
- Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
3. School Culture
- Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- Partner with families to provide the necessary resources for their child's learning needs.
- Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
- Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and model our core values.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.
Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
- An enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
- A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
- Required Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
- Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to employment. Teacher certification is not a prerequisite, but you must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation
The salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $80,000. Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant full-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $56,000.
